Why are oil changes important?

Some say that oil is the "lifeblood" of your vehicle.  Dramatic as it may sound, it's actually quite true.  Your vehicle's oil keeps the engine lubricated so all of its various moving parts can operate smoothly and efficiently which, in turn, helps the rest of your vehicle do the same.  Oil does not last forever, though.  Overtime, oil levels drop and the oil itself can grow dirty.  Dirty oil eventually builds up and creates a nasty sludge that can cause damage to your engine and make it more difficult for it to run properly.  Regularly refreshing and changing out your oil is the best way to avoid these problems and extend the life of your engine.

How often should I get an oil change?

Oil change intervals depend heavily on the type of car that you have, the conditions in which you drive, and the type of oil you use.  Regardless of whether you drive a new or used vehicle, it's necessary to stay on top of its regular maintenance.  Your owner's manual will tell you how often your vehicle needs an oil change, but these intervals typically fall anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 miles (usually somewhere in between).  Your vehicle may alert you if it is equipped with an oil change warning.  It's important to check your manual or bring your vehicle to our service center for specifics.

What is the difference between conventional and synthetic oil?

Conventional oil is standard fare for most engines.  If you spend most of your time simply driving around town instead of venturing out onto rough terrain or towing heavy loads, conventional oil is a good choice.  Quality and viscosity varies, so there is a wide array of choices.  Synthetic oil is good for more sophisticated engines.  It doesn't have as many impurities, making it less likely to create damaging sludge.  It is also designed to work better in both low and high temperatures, offering better protection and improved flow.
